 Saturday January 27 - PA
Join friends from West Vincent Sustainability and East Nantmeal EAC committees for our national seed swap and giveaway. Held at the Henrietta Hankin Library in Chester Springs. PA.
The seed swap provides a chance to grow food that’s not typically sold in supermarkets and fosters crop diversity.
All budding gardeners out there, who enjoy growing new plants, will enjoy National Seed Swap Day.
Although people have been swapping seeds since time began, nowadays people usually buy seeds and the old skill of saving and swapping seeds is disappearing from our culture. It’s a day where gardeners of all ages and experiences can come together and swap the seeds from their best plants, which is great for improving the biodiversity, in the local area.
Bring some of your own seeds to swap - it doesn't matter what types they are or whether they're in packets or jars or even retail varieties. Tell others about your favorites and learn about new and interesting varieties. Find some heirlooms and rare finds too. Everyone could bring something to share, even something made from their own produce?!
We'll have a special speaker discuss the art and science of seed saving and sustainability in our local food system.
Admission is free
Refreshments are provided.s

Tips: Bring several small Ziplock bags or sealable small containers and Sharpie markers because you will want to split many of the interesting company donated seed packets with your friends.

You are going to want to bring business cards with you if you have any, because you will meet others who grow interesting things you want more of or who have answers to all of your questions about crops of interest.

If you have interesting stories to share about the crops you brought, there will be a section of the event especially for you.
If you have creative gardening topic clothing that is family friendly, we will have a contest that you can win.
If you have a creative flair for making name tags and have a cool one on during the event, you might just be a winner.
If you are good at naming plants or pieces of artwork, you might just be a winner.
If you think you can guess the correct number of seeds in a container, you might just be a winner.
If you think a book about protecting yourself against the garden gnome invasion would be hilarious, then you might just be a winner.
If you are a plantaholic and cannot get enough of flowering life, then you are in the right place; so bring a few friends with you because you will leave with far more than you came with.
